Clear Indicators and Side Repeaters :: Subaru Impreza RB5 Owners Club
Getting rid of those nasty orange indicators and side repeaters should be first on every Scooby owners list of things-to-do. It did take me a while to get my own sorted, but the end result was well worthwhile.
front indicator (crystal type)
side repeater (crystal type)
I sourced mine from David Reid Motorsport, who are only a 15min drive from my work. They cost £60 and £20 respectively and come with some orange bulbs.
I didn't like the bulbs showing through the clear indicators, so I bought some Philips PY21W silver-coated bulbs that glow orange. These cost £15 per pair, so £30 all-in for the fronts and sides.
Side Repeater and Front Indicator bulb (type P21W)
To replace the front indicator, simply undo the single screw from each side. The indicator should just pop out from the bumper, though it may need a bit of coaxing. Then it's just a matter of unscrewing the bulb holder, fitting the new silver-coated bulb and screwing in the new clear indicator in it's place.
The side repeaters are slightly trickier to replace as they are held in with some plastic clips. You need to carefully push the repeater towards the front of the car. This will compress the plastic spring clip and release the clip from the rear of the repeater. The repeater should pivot on the plastic spring clip and pull free from the rear.
Simply unscrew the bulb holder, replace with a silver-coated bulb, and push the new clear repeater back into the wing.
