Toyo Proxes T1-S Tyres :: Subaru Impreza RB5 Owners Club
Having ran with the Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres for just over 1 year and around 14K miles, I was unfortunate to get a nail stuck in the tyre sidewall. This was on the inside of the tyre and went unnoticed, except that the tyre pressure was becoming noticeably low. I re-inflated the tyre to get me home, but unfortunately the tyre's sidewall failed (no sudden failure, just gradually worn down as the tyre slowly deflated). I was faced with replacing at least two tyres as it's inadvisable to run with tyres of varying tread depths on the same axles.
When I looked at the 3 other good tyres, there wasn't much wear left in them (possible 2 - 2.5mm of tread), so I decided to replace all four tyres.
Unfortunately, Goodyear replaced the Eagle tyres with a new compound and these proved impossible to get hold of at a decent price. So, I decided to give the Toyo Proxes T1-S tyres a try as they were at least £15 cheaper per tyre.
I sourced the tyres from for £78.75 inc. VAT (per tyre) and delivery from ScoobyWorld (although I later discovered that MyTyres.net were doing these for £10 cheaper but with a 1 week delivery).
The kerb protector is much larger than that of the Goodyear's, so should prevent any bad kerbing.
Update 29-03-2003: Having been initially very disappointed with the performance of the Toyo's, especially in the wet (or even slightly damp), I've had them re-checked for balance and fixed a faulty value in the nearside rear alloy. The faulty valve kept leaking air, so on fast right-hand bends you could feel the rear becoming loose as the weight shifted onto the slightly deflated tyre (as low as 26psi on a couple of occasions). Having had 3 weeks of dry weather now, the performance in the dry is on par with the Goodyears.
